Viper Racing Grand Touring Championship

Viper Racing Grand Touring Championship

I just can't seem to beat my Personal Best in Sega Rally 2 (4:04... duh) this summer, that's why I am always looking for new racing games. Arcade or simulation - who cares as long as it is fun to play.

Viper Racing by Sierra is one of these racing sims that are unsupported and nearly forgotten. It's a great game with a hard single player mode if you choose to play the simulation mode. On the other side, the game also offers an arcade and intermediate mode for those of us who come from the consoles and Need For Speed Underground ;)

The game features just one car: the Viper (who would have expected it?). During your single player career you can of course buy car add-ons and also customize your power monster on 4 wheels with some paint and racing stripes...
Overall, it's a solid racing sim, nothing fancy but lots of possibilities to play with your car setup.

What I didn't know about Viper Racing yet was the fact that a small online community also released a set of new GT cars and tracks. I installed them in a couple of minutes and it's lots of fun to drive the Ferrari 360 GT1, McLaren F1 GTR and Porsche 996 GT1 RS on tracks like Monza, Mugello and Assen which are pure eye candy compared to the generic tracks that came with the original Viper Racing.

However, if you look for sensation of speed, Viper Racing wont be your game. You can choose the bumper cam and it still feels like 100kmh when you're actually in 6th gear and going 300kmh+.

I'm sure gonna try online racing with it, at least until GTR comes out.
